Articulation Approaches

This section of the Treatment Quick Guide offers SLPs information on two articulation therapy approaches often used in therapy. It includes general information about the implementation of each approach, links to a multitude of resources (both free and paid!), and research to back each intervention so clinicians are utilizing evidence-based practice!

When do you use a articulation approach?

There are certain criteria that help SLPs determine whether to use a phonological approach or an articulation approach. SLPs may opt to choose a articulation approach if:

  • The client being treated is exhibiting consistent characteristics in their speech that suggest the problem is a motor problem, or problem with their articulators.
